As a student at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism, I am energized by what I learn in and out of the classroom to share stories of those who are historically underreported. The Bay Area is home to too many of these stories, and I am eager to uncover as many of these stories as I can.
During my time as a multimedia journalist for Cal Poly's Mustang News, I first laid my journalistic groundwork. I researched holes in coverage to share stories that other outlets missed. For example, I wrote an article about a survivor at Cal Poly and her senior project dedicated to increasing awareness about sexual assault on campus. The story received about 2,000 views online within a few days, and it spurred a response from Cal Poly President Jeffrey Armstrong.
As the editor in chief for Mustang News, I further integrated our newsroom to create multi-platform coverage for web, print, social media, video and radio. For example, I redesigned our email newsletter to integrate content from our radio station. This led to greater engagement for the different types of content that we offered. I hope to continue to discover even more strategies that encourage audience engagement.
Whether it's writing stories, creating multimedia content or editing, I promise I will be the most dedicated individual to work with.
When I am not reporting, writing or editing, you can find me at the beach watching the sunset, practicing yoga and researching books to add to my way-too-long TBR list.
